Casterton FC 8 FC Hampton Reserves 1
FC Hampton Reserves, kicked off our campaign against last seasons’ league winners and a team that has lost only once in the league the past two seasons. Although we stated off strong and created an early chance through Kai Stanford, we soon found ourselves 4-0 within 30mins after two individual errors and them scoring two well-earned goals. We continued to push and prior to half time with Robert Pearson, Kai and Daniel O’Sullivan (Sully) we had 3 significant efforts saved. The pushing forward left us vulnerable to the counter attack and they scored two more prior to half time.
Casterton came out strong second half, as did we and were knocking on the door to get our first however, we were again exposed on the counter attack and conceded. The game continued to be competitive match with us hitting the bar, having a goal disallowed and their back four and goal keeper under lots of pressure for large parts of the half. We did manage to a consolation goal as Simon Pearce floated in a cross and Sully battled in the box to slot home from close range. Casterton got goal number 8 as Sully was deemed to have brought down their player in the box.
MoM – Kai Stanford – continuously worked hard and unlucky not to score
HM – Peter Wright – good solid performance after coming back from injury
Managers comments – they were better than us in large parts of the game and we didn’t deal with their physically strong and athletic striker who caused us havoc. We played some positive football and showed some good team spirit.
